February 20, 1964 ‒ October 21, 2019

Delaware, Ohio

On Monday, October 21, 2019, Daniel Travis “Dan” Scott, loving husband and devoted father of two passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55.

He was born February 20th, 1964 in Alton, Illinois, to the late Donald & Charlene(Barnett) Scott. Dan grew up with his brother Donald, in a loving home where his father and mother spared no expense to make sure everyone felt welcome, Dan would go on to always do that as he got older.

On January 7th, 1989 in Sunbury, Ohio he married the love of his life Joy Ellen Morit. Together they lovingly raised two daughters Kirsten (Michael) & Kaitlyn (Paul) they survive, along with brother Donald; several brother and sister in-laws,  mother in-law Frances, and nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, sisters in-law Lori and Diane, and father in-law Arthur.

Dan had an undying passion and respect for everything outdoors. You’d often find him spending his free time fishing on his boat at Alum Creek, camping at Assateague, going on motorcycle rides, exploring the countryside or even just stopping at parks to admire the nature around him. Dan also had a great love for all things family, he made countless family dinners, hosted holidays, and constantly made every single persons day he encountered genuinely better. He always encouraged people to have their “Best Day Ever!”

  • Chef Dan as I called him was a kind hearted man. Very rough around the edges. But would do anything for anyone. I am not sure what I am going to eat at work now. I loved his food. And all the stories that man would tell. Chef Dan you will be very missed.

  • Joy and Family,

There are no words I can express about how you are feeling, for that is yours alone. Only the Lord can comfort you in a time such as this. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. And He saves those who are crushed in spirit …”.
Please know that you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

  • Joy, I am crushed and saddened for you and your family. Dan is a good man and will live forever in our hearts and forever with the Lord. I pray that you and your family will find the strength to live on and share the love and joy that Dan shared with all of us.

  • Celebrating The Life Of Daniel T. Scott-A Real Person

A good father, a devoted family man
    A kind-hearted son-in-law, and a loyal friend
A chef, car expert and outdoorsman
    And a generous person
Dan is a man with passion
    and superhuman strength:
he can singlehandedly lift a huge BBQ stove!
I always thought that I could cook-
until I tasted his specialty pulled pork.
Its taste was soft, juicy, and heavenly
and left me longing for the next special occasion.
    He takes things in stride:
Once he got a traffic ticket
and simply said that was part of the cost of driving.
He has the wit of Jackie Gleason
    and an endearing vision:
    He simply wants others
To have the best day ever.
Dan, you are simply a real person!

  • Dan always had a smile & wave for me when we happened to be outside at same time. A great guy to know.

  • Joy,
I am so deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your wonderful husband. My sincere sympathy to you and your family. I know you have an amazing support group of family and friends but if there is anything I can do please don’t hesitate to ask.

  • My condolences to you and your family. Dan will be missed by all. Take joy in your memories.

  • I worked with Dan at Giant Eagle in Powell. He was always so kind to me. When I first started, he helped me a lot. Always had a smile for the other employees and the customers. He always said..”It’s the best day ever!” so sorry for your loss.
