Daniel Garber

October 13, 1988 ‒ October 30, 2018

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: “Choose what you make your day to be.” Daniel Garber’s family and friends often heard these encouraging words. Even when things went wrong he would be quick to remind you, “hey—it’s still up to you.”

Daniel David Garber peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from Kobacker House in Columbus following a cancer diagnosis two years ago. He was 30 years old.

Daniel was born October 13, 1988 in Ashland to parents David & Barbara (Hochstetler) Garber. Daniel was a skilled mason, had his own business, Western Masonry, and he enjoyed his work.

Through mutual friends, he met a beautiful young lady named Cevilla Hershberger in 2009. After several years of dating, Daniel planned a romantic proposal near a waterfall in Hocking Hills. The pair married on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2015.

Daniel was an active member of Community Bible Church in Mansfield where he served as a morning greeter, and had recently joined a small group with his wife. Described as the most positive person you will ever meet, Daniel’s positivity was infectious and throughout his battle with cancer he never once complained. When Daniel had to shave his head while undergoing treatment for cancer, ten of his friends and relatives joined in by letting Daniel shave their heads too! He was truly blessed with the support of a loving church family and community who will miss him very much.

In spare time, he enjoyed having fun: snowmobiling, playing card and chess games, hunting for bears or deer, and shooting guns. He liked to visit his parents whenever he could and especially loved his mom’s corn fritters. His was always listening to contemporary Christian music and will be remembered for his servant’s heart.

He is survived by his loving wife of 3 years Cevilla Garber of Mansfield; his three-year-old son Austin Garber; parents David & Barbara Garber of Oak Hill; siblings (and their spouses) Katie (Ruben) Coblentz, Lester (Katie) Garber, Ernest (Susie) Garber, Raymond (Mary) Garber, Irvin (Anna) Garber, Paul Garber, and Joe Garber; mother-in-law Verna Hershberger of Canton, NY; siblings-in-law Mosie (Rebecca) Hershberger, Andy (Ada) Hershberger, Elisabeth (Ananias) Miller, Levi (Anna) Hershberger, Mary (Ure) Miller, Noah Hershberger, Amos (Emma) Hershberger, Anna (Ure) Yoder, Eli (Anna) Hershberger, Jonas Hershberger, Fannie Hershberger, Emery Hershberger, and Chriss Hershberger; special close friends Sam (Rachel) Yoder; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Enos Hershberger.

His family will receive friends Friday, November 2, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Community Bible Church (1043 Springmill St, Mansfield, OH 44906). A funeral service honoring Daniel’s life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Community Bible Church. Pastor Dan Richter will officiate and burial will follow in Lantz Cemetery. Contributions to benefit his son may be made at the services.
