Daniel D. Sapp Sr., 71, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 13, at Knox Community Hospital due to complications from a long battle with emphysema.

He was born on March 19, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to Raymond I. Sapp and Helen Louise (Frye) Sapp. Daniel was a direct descendent of the Sapps who contributed to the founding of Danville, Ohio and St. Luke parish in the early nineteenth century. He spent his youth on farms in Danville and Mt. Vernon and was a resident of Knox County for many years.

After graduating from Gambier High School, he attended business school in Columbus and served in the Ohio National Guard. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he owned and operated Jet Quality Cleaners in Mt. Vernon. After receiving his real estate agent and broker licenses, he founded and operated Colonial Reality Company in Mt. Vernon. He sold houses and land in Knox and Richland counties.

Surviving Mr. Sapp are his children, David (Heidi) Sapp of Berlin Heights, Ohio, Angelia Sapp of Mansfield, and Danielle Sapp of Columbus; two grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Sapp; and his siblings, Wayne (Carolyn) Sapp of Mt. Vernon, Jane (Joe) Colopy of Fredericktown, Dale (Nancy) Sapp of Howard, and Evelyn (Gregg) George of Mt. Vernon.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Stanton and Harriett Sapp; and an infant daughter.

A memorial service will be conducted at St. Luke Catholic Church, Danville, Saturday, April 30, 10:00 am by Reverend Father Richard Snoke. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the parish community room following the service. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be in St. Luke Cemetery, Danville.
