Dane Eric Strait

February 11, 1972 ‒ March 29, 2019

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Dane Eric Strait, age 47, of Mount Gilead, was taken too soon, early Friday morning, March 29, 2019, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

On February 11, 1972, Dane was born in Mount Gilead, OH, son of Susan Jane (Alkire) Waddell and the late Keith Eric Strait.  He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1990.

For the last few years, Dane worked as a welder for Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) in Marion.  He was proud of his work there and enjoyed the friendships he made with his co-workers.

Dane absolutely loved riding motorcycles.  Harley-Davidson, of course.  He was born to ride.  As a little kid he would always peel out on his Big Wheel and ride it into the pool.  He then rode dirt bikes and graduated to motorcycles.  He was always talking about the new thing he was going to get for his bike and where he was going to ride next.  His bike was not a “garage queen,” he rode it everywhere and in any kind of weather.  In 2016, he took a special trip to Sturgis, SD, with his dad.  He said after that experience and how beautiful it was there, it should be obvious to all that there is a God.

Above anything else, Dane loved his children.  They were his life and his pride and joy.  Everything he did was for his kids.  They kept him going.  He enjoyed joking around with Sydney and Noah and always told them “do what I say, not what I do.”

Dane had a great sense of humor, the best laugh, and a heart of Gold.  Dane displayed Loyalty, Honor and Respect in everything he did and expected the same if you were to be called a true friend.  He always lived by the expression “Ride Hard- Live Free.” His memory will continue on through his children and family.

Dane will be dearly missed by his four children: Sydney Marie Strait, Noah Eric Strait, and Daejia and Cierra Strait; his mother and step-father, Susan and Roger Waddell, step-mother Jan Strait; two sisters: Trisha Cherie (Strait) Hutchinson and her husband Mitch, Heather Lee (Strait) Williamson and her husband, Tony;  stepbrothers and sisters: Gary “Dean” Chubb, Roni Marie (Khalid) Ali, and Jeremy (Sherri) Chubb; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Foster and Sarah Alkire; his paternal grandparents: Robert and Thelma Strait and Carl and Tina Casto; step-brother, Jonathan Chubb; and aunts: Judy McAvoy and Penny Harden.

Dane’s family will greet friends from 1 -3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. At 3:00 friends are encouraged to participate in the memorial ride for the services to honor and celebrate his life in Rivercliff Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his Dad.  Pastor Andy Freeman will officiate the graveside service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Snyder Funeral Homes to assist his family with funeral expenses.
