Dale E. Miller

December 15, 1919 ‒ December 30, 2013

Cameron Park, CA and Galion, Ohio

Dale E. Miller, 94, of Cameron Park, California and formerly of Westerville, Ohio and North Highlands, California died Monday, December 30, 2013.

Born December 15, 1919 in Galion, he was the son of Roy Reed Miller and Mary Beatrice (Shumaker) Miller. He was preceded in death on August 25, 2008 by his wife, Maxine C. (Ackerman) Miller whom he married on January 23, 1983 and was previously married to Irene (Woodruff) Miller on Mar. 18, 1949 and she preceded him on June 27, 1982.

He graduated from Galion High School and served with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He worked at the Galion Iron Works, for a short time, before he left Galion and started at Curtis Wright, an aerospace company in Columbus, Ohio. From there, he became an engineering consultant with North American Aircraft before his position as Vice President of Automation Industries in Century City, California. At Automation Industries, he oversaw five production facilities around the United States. At this company, he was able to be part of the NASA Apollo flight space program.

Dale retired from Automation Industries in 1977 to devote his energy into the daily operation and management of the McClellan Mobile Home Park located in North Highlands, California, which he had purchased in 1969. Dale was also active in the management of three other properties, in addition to the Mobile Home Park, until March of 2010.

Since his time was split between Ohio and California, he was very active in two churches. He was a member of the North Park Church of Christ in Westerville, Ohio. In California, he belonged to the Bayside Church in Citrus Heights. He was a member of the Reynoldsburg Lodge of the Masons in Ohio. He also served on the Board of Regents for Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Dale was a philanthropist, who was committed, throughout his life, to making frequent contributions in an effort to help others in need. He contributed to different churches, schools, veteran groups, and charities, as well as individuals. Many have benefited from the generosity of his heart, and the commitment to his faith.

Dale always had a project going! He loved to work, and it kept him vibrant and strong. He also loved to travel, and took many driving trips, especially to see family and friends. Listening to music was a special part of Dale’s life. He loved listening to the church choirs, especially if there was the sound of some good ole’ fashioned gospel music! Time spent browsing in antique shops, helped him to collect many types of antiques. However, his one real passion was for cars of all sizes, both new and old. He had an impressive model car collection.

He loved a good joke, a fun story, and a little laugh. He was the kind of guy who stayed in your thoughts, because of the goodness in his heart. To those of us who knew him well, he had that special little smile and that fun twinkle in his eye. He touched our lives, and gave us many memories of our time spent together with him.

He is survived by daughter Pamela Sue Miller of Shingle Springs, Calif. and son and daughter-in-law Terry Lee and Joyce Ann Miller of Akron; step-children Thomas (Jeanette) Cray of Fredericktown, Constance Cray of Columbus, Ohio and Catherine (Daniel) Clark of Westerville; grandchildren Bruce Woodruff, Rachel Miller, Jason Miller and Jarod Miller; step-grandchildren Lena and Amelia Clark; great-grandchildren Josh, Andie and Allie Miller; step-great-grandchildren, Alexia and Dominic Steel; brother and sister-in-law Richard A. and Dorothy Miller of Galion and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives and parents he was preceded by brothers Robert Leroy Miller, Kenneth Dean Miller and Albert Lee Miller; sister Elizabeth Mae Bower and step-son Richard Woodruff.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church, 130 East Walnut St. Galion, Ohio 44833 where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Penrod officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
