Coreta K. Ballam, age 93, of Fredericktown and formerly of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born on June 4, 1924 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the daughter of Fred and Mary (Smith) Small.

Coreta enjoyed playing cards and square dancing and most importantly taking care of her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be sadly missed by many.

She is survived by her children; Tom (Nasrin) Kempton of Westchester, California, John (Missy) Kempton of Mount Vernon, Mary Jo Ray of Sebring, Florida, Chris Kempton of Fredericktown and Patience Ballam of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren, Kevin Davis of Mount Vernon, Jeff (Julie) Kempton of Mount Vernon, Marilyn Chalfant of Columbus, Shawn (Buffy) Kempton of Gainesville, Virginia, Nikki (Rob) Toler of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Summer Rector of Mount Vernon, Theresa Kempton of Mount Vernon and Chelsea Kempton of Columbus; numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Norma Jean Montgomery of Mount Vernon and a brother, Bill Small of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Fred Ballam, a daughter, Kathy Noce, two sisters, Maxine Rudolph and Dorothy Small.

The family will observe private services. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Coreta K. Ballam.
