Clyde E. Jacobs

Clyde E. Jacobs, age 91, of High Street, Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1922 in Centerburg, Ohio to the late Charles and Ursel (Messmore) Jacobs. Clyde served in the United States Army during World War II where he fought in the Battle of Normandy. Clyde had been awarded 4 Bronze Stars for his service to his country.
Clyde retired in 1983 after 44 years of employment with Columbia Gas. He was a member of the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church, Thrall Lodge #170 F&AM and Lions Club both of Fredericktown. Clyde volunteered as a coach in the Fredericktown Little League and enjoyed golfing. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Ann (Smith) Jacobs, whom he married on September 1, 1951, his children, Carol Jacobs of Fredericktown, Diane (Chuck) Kelley of Reynoldsburg and Dave (Brenda) Jacobs of Bay Village, six grandchildren, Caitlin, Clark, Cole and Casey Jacobs, Becky and Michael Kelley and two sisters, Frances “Tee” Rosch and Jane Thorne of Columbus, Ohio.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Jacobs.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
Memorial contributions in Clyde’s name may be made to the Fredericktown Little League.
