Clifford L. Leonard, age 76, of Arch Ave., Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2006 at his son’s home.

He was born on December 17, 1929 in Fredericktown to the late Clifford B. and Dorothea (Schroeder) Leonard. Clifford was employed for 20 years in the village of Fredericktown and served as a volunteer fireman for 35 years. He was a member of the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, a member of the Colonial City Moose #2555, the Fredericktown American Legion Joe Cocanower Post #500 where he served as the past Post Commander, secretary and treasurer, the Mount Vernon American Legion Dan Stone Post, the Amvets Post #95, and the Mount Vernon Veterans of Foreign War (V.F.W.). He was a veteran serving in the United States Army from 1948-1952.

He is survived by his son Douglas (Alice) Leonard of Mount Vernon, a daughter Rita (Harmon) Gaddis of Mount Vernon, and a sister Erma Louise (Melvin) Duty of Millbury, Ohio. Besides his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by a step-sister Wanda Brokaw.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 from 5 – 8PM at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown with an Order of the Moose Service starting at 8PM. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11AM with Rev. Keith Bohley officiating. Per Clifford’s request, burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
