Claudia Rose McLain

July 28, 1923 ‒ March 15, 2017

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Claudia Rose McLain, age 93, of Mount Gilead, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 15, 2017, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

On July 28, 1923, Claudia was born at home in Cardington, OH, the daughter of the late Frank and Lucille (Holt) Beatty.  She graduated from Cardington High School.

Claudia married the love of her life, Wallace “Dale” McLain on June 14, 1941.  They shared over 40 years together before he preceded her in death in 1981.

A woman of great faith, Claudia was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Gilead.  She was very involved with the Sunday school classes and belonged to many women’s clubs in the church.  She was also a Cub Scout den mother for many years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing piano, cooking, sewing and needlework.  She also like taking short road trips that always included a picnic.

Claudia truly enjoyed taking care of and raising her family.  All of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren held a special place in her heart.  She was a good, caring mother, but her “Irishness” showed through every once in a while.

Claudia will be dearly missed by her three children: Jerry (Linda) McLain of Newburg, IN, Penny Shipley of Mount Gilead, Michael (Diana) McLain of Mount Gilead; 16 grandchildren: Sheri, Sheli, Teri, Lisa, Kevin, Faith, Kristi, Kimberly, Kathy, Aaron, Randy, Paul, Lisa, Timothy, Kory, Amy; 18 great grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Beulah Smith; and a brother, James (Nancy) Beatty, both of Cardington.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Kelly; and five siblings: Mildred Shoup, Marjorie Bunnell, Raymond Beatty, Richard Beatty, and an infant who passed away at birth.

Claudia’s family will greet friends from 1 – 3 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead.  Services to honor and celebrate her life will take place there at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Stephan Bloomfield officiating.  Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to First Baptist Church of Mount Gilead or to Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church.
