Claude Allen, Sr.

January 06, 1945 ‒ September 09, 2021

Marion, Ohio

Claude Allen, Sr., age 76 of Marion passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

Claude was born January 6, 1945 in Ironton, the son of George and Mae (Douglas) Allen. Claude married his soulmate, Wanda Christine Blevins, on August 3, 1966. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Claude faithfully served the River Valley School district in the custodial department for 35 years until his retirement. He made numerous friendships over the many years including students and faculty who will remember him fondly.

Some of Claude’s favorite times were on Knox Lake fishing. He was a gifted musician that entertained family and friends playing his guitar and singing. Often times, the family would organize horseshoe tournaments and it was rare that Claude would ever lose. He had a knack for fixing cars and helping others. But above all, he loved his family deeply and cherished every minute he spent with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Christine Allen; beloved children: Claude Allen, Jr., Christine (Thomas) Gibson, George (Bobbie Jo) Allen, and Jessica (Denim) Franklin; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his best friend who was like a brother, Phillip Johnson.

Claude is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: DeCee Depriest, Janet Elswick, Lavina Smith and Martha Smith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Snyder Funeral Homes, Gunder/Hall Chapel, 347 West Center St., Marion from 10AM to 12Noon; Funeral service will follow at 12Noon with Pastor Ricky Jenkins officiating; burial will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

  • Dear Wanda, children & family…
I remember Claude during my earliest days at RVHS. He was ALWAYS kind, soft-spoken & anxious to help in any way —whether it was cleaning or fixing something, or simply giving me good advice. Often, Claude & I would chat after school…, especially about fishing & a family he loved very much.
    Deepest sympathy,
    Jeffrey A. Linardi
