Clarence L. Blanchard, age 94, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Mount Vernon Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on May 15, 1924 in Knox County, Ohio the son of Earl and Alice (King) Blanchard.  Clarence proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Clarence retired in 1986 after 36 years of employment as a carpenter for Kenyon College.  In his spare time Clarence liked working in his wood shop, making mirrors and canes for others to use and enjoy.  He also liked working in his vegetable garden and always enjoyed the fresh taste of watermelon with salt sprinkled on top.  Clarence was a simple hard working man who enjoyed the small pleasures of life, but most important to him was the time he spent with his family.  He was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children; Tom (Gina Busse) Blanchard of Granville and Amy Blanchard of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother, Bernard (Martha) Blanchard of Fredericktown and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Blanchard (2016) and a brother, Joseph Blanchard.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 303 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.  Rev. Father Daniel Olvera will be Celebrant.  A graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at 1 p.m. in St. Luke Cemetery in Danville.

Memorial contributions in Clarence’s name may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Church Building Fund.
