Christopher Robert O’Hara

October 18, 1988 ‒ November 02, 2016

Mount Vernon, Ohio

Christopher Robert O’Hara, age 28, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his home. He was born on October 18, 1988 in Warren, Ohio. Chris currently worked at Eastern Sky Landscaping in Mount Vernon.

Wikipedia defines a personal trainer as “a fitness professional involved in exercise prescription and instruction. One who motivates clients by setting goals and providing feedback and accountability to clients.” If you know Chris, this was the perfect definition of his true passion in life. Whether it was a sweaty day in the gym, a late night text or social media post, Chris was always trying to motivate or encourage someone to strive for their best. He loved golf and was a talented artist but physical fitness was his first passion and his heart was his biggest muscle. He loved his family and friends fiercely and always lent a helping hand to people in need.

Chris was loved by many and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his parents Robert and Teresa (Mackie) O’Hara, a sister, Jenn (Eric) Bohman, a brother, William “Will” O’Hara, his girlfriend Stacy Bennett, a nephew, Preston Bohman, maternal grandparents, Carl and Karen Mackie, paternal grandmother, Lois O’Hara, aunts and uncles, Robb and Michelle Mann, Jon and Vicki Mackie, Mike and Melanie O’Hara and Doug and Kathy Savage. He is also survived by his cousins, Sarah and Zach Wright, Alex Mann, Maggie Mackie, Katie Mackie, Aaron O’Hara, Matthew O’Hara, Adam O’Hara, Scott and Stacy Savage, Anthony Savage, Jessica and Ryan Donovan.

Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Rev. William O’Hara.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 807 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. Rev. Warren Outhwaite will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

  • We were all shocked to hear the sad news about Chris. Our hearts ache for you and wanted to share our sincere condolences and sympathy. I cannot even imagine. He blessed everyone that he came in contact with and was very respectful every time that he was in our space. We loved being with Chris….. at many basketball games and very special memories on vacation in Florida. A memorable time is when Chris & Cody wanted to go snorkeling with their cheap plastic gear. With the flippers, masks & the breathing mechanism in position they made their way to the beach. They walked from our house across the main road towards the 5 Star Marriott Hotel & up the steps having to go sideways because of their flippers. I was trying to take pictures without shaking & visualizing as to how they were going to get to the Gulf of Mexico via this fancy hotel, on marble floors & patrons that probably had to do a double take. Then the next year when 7 teenage boys joined us & ate a record amount of BBQ ribs at the Snook Restaurant. Again, patrons ended up just staying to watch as these boys consumed that much food. These are just some of the special memories that I will hold dear to my heart. My prayer is that God wraps his loving arms around you all and in time the sadness will fade. He lives on through all of you.

  • Dear Loved Ones’ of Chris,

I am so very sorry for your loss and the power that addiction can have over one’s life and destiny. Addiction is not a choice just like no one chooses to have cancer….it is a disease that is life-long battle. Please trust that no one is at fault and addiction can affect anyone. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you….stay strong and keep the many positive memories of Chris first always!

    Much love!
