Christie Wenger Bago
December 15, 1970 ‒ May 13, 2014
Christie Wenger Bago, age 43, of Fredericktown, died early Tuesday morning, at home surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous 14 month battle with cancer.
On December 15, 1970, Christie was born at the Morrow County Hospital in Mount Gilead, the second of four children of Marcia (Augenstein) Wenger and the late William A. “Bill” Wenger. She was raised in the Chesterville area, and graduated from Highland High School in the Class of 1989.
Following high school, Christie began working at Kroger’s in Mount Gilead, where a fellow co-worker and friend thought she should meet a mutual friend of hers, Rick Bago. After a successful blind date, the rest is history, as they eloped to be married on August 16, 1994, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. They were married 19 years and lovingly raised two sons, Austin and Braden.
For 13 years, Christie worked at Kroger’s in Mount Gilead and at Lexington Avenue in Mansfield as the general manager of the health, drug and beauty section of their stores. Then in 2002, she and her husband followed their dreams, owning and operating their own store, Pit Stop 95, at SR 95 and SR 71. She took pride in their drive thru, where she absolutely loved their customers and spoiled them rotten, by fulfilling their every request and need.
In her own way, Christie had a deep faith and belief in her Lord and Savior. This came from her upbringing of being raised attending the Bryn Zion Baptist Church.
Having a huge and welcoming heart, everyone knew Christie’s door was always open for them. Her house was considered the “home away from home” to her special nieces and nephews and to all of her son’s friends, whom she was like a 2nd Mom to. She had the heart of a Wenger…there is always room for one more…or even 10 more…at her table. This went for animals too, as she dearly loved her two great danes, Ace, and the late Harley.
Despite her short stature and loving ways, Christie could also be a “spitfire,” especially if you messed with her boys.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Rick Bago; her two precious sons: Austin and Braden Bago; her mother, Marcia Wenger, all of Fredericktown; two sisters and one brother: Julie (Scott) Gompf of Edison, Matt (Angie) Wenger of Fredericktown, and Laura (David) Swihart of Mount Gilead; 11 beloved nieces and nephews, and 6 great nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15th, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will also be held there at 10 a.m. on Friday, with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Christie will be laid to rest with her father at the Wenger Family Cemetery on the family farm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
On behalf of her family, they would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to her wonderful family and friends who helped Christie along the way! There are far too many to be able to mention them all.
