On June 25, 2021, heaven gained a wonderful man as Chris E. Adkins, age 63 went to his eternal home after a long illness with lung cancer.

He was born in Mt. Gilead on June 3, 1958, to the late Herbert “Wes” Adkins and Joan (Totten) Adkins of Marengo. Chris was a 1976 graduate of Highland High School, where he was active in FFA. Treasured family vacations were spent in Florida. Humble and true, he was a fun-loving, honorable, good man who was devoted to his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Nancy, with whom he shared 34 wonderful years Nancy (Gates), son Ryan (Brittany Messmer), mother Joan Adkins, brother Mark (Peggy) Adkins of Marengo, niece Mindy (Brian) Howard, nephews Trevor Adkins, Christopher, and Eric Gates, as well as extended family and friends.

  • I don’t know how to do this, I remember about different things as most. THE Adkins boys and my brothers used to ride up to our house, play !!!! WAS THE GAME, THEN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR THEM TO GO HOME, MY BROTHERS WOULD RIDE WITH THEM HOME!!

  • I will miss you dearly my friend. My weekend golf will never be the same. You always found the good things to say and never bad. You were a true friend that I only knew for 6 years but seemed liked a lifetime. You will be missed dearly my brother. Hit them long and straight in that big golf course in the sky. I am sure you will find someone to bet and win.

Nancy, my heart goes out to you and your family. There are not enough words to say how special Chris was to us all.

  • Chris, you will be so missed by all that knew you. You were the kindest and most laid-back gentleman that loved life. I remember when Nancy and I introduced you to Denny during the Hartford fair way back. Since then you became and remained true friends and enjoyed many years of golf and hanging with the “group”, you still be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know and love you. Nancy and Ryan, our hearts break for you. Taken way too soon. May God watch over you and comfort you.

  • I can’t imagine anyone that knew Chris, I mean really knew him didn’t love this man, even though he was big and tall and could be intimidating at times especially on the golf course, he was still a man with the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known. We are truly blessed to have had such a great man in our lives and we are going to miss him dearly. Nancy and Ryan, our hearts are breaking for you and your family, the pain and sadness of this is unbearable at times. Just know that you are in our hearts and prayers. I’m sure Chris hated to leave you here to do all this alone without him, but I believe you are not alone and he is with you in spirit and watching over you to help you through these tough times. We love you, rest in peace.

  • Rhonda and I met Chris and Nancy when our sons were playing sports together. It was then that I recognized that Chris was an honorable man with a great sense of humor. My first thoughts, when I learned of his passing, was what a good man we have lost. May God bless those left behind until they are united again.

  • Nancy,

  • Chris Adkins was a great man. A longtime family friend that will be greatly missed. He lived and breathed what he loved to do. He experienced a great life and married his China doll, Nancy, who brought Ryan into their lives. What a strong bonded family where history and memories were made. He will always be remembered as a loving Husband, Dad, Son, friend and Grandson from all those that knew him. Continued prayers to the entire family and friends for peace, comfort and healing of the Holy Spirit.
