Chester V. Leedy

Chester V. Leedy, 100 years young, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. He was born on January 6, 1913 in Palmyra of Knox County, Ohio to the late Homer and Pearl (Files) Leedy. He was a member of the 1931 graduating class of Fredericktown High School and lived in the Fredericktown area his entire life while spending 36 winters in Florida. He was a lifetime member of the Palmyra Church of Christ serving as deacon, treasurer, trustee and member of the building committee.
Chester also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Leedy Reunion Association and the Friends of the Quaker Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Kokosing Valley Antique Tractor Club and was Grand Marshal for the club at the 2010 Knox County Fair. Most recently, Chester was proud to be a Marshal for the 2013 Tomato Show Parade.
As a young man, he was associated with the former Meredith Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Fredericktown. At the time of his father’s death, he took over the family farm and later his own farm. On June 2, 1938, he was married to Ula Bernice Weller. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary prior to her death on November 16, 1988. He and his wife owned and operated the Rose Garden Nursing Home for several years and he retired from Boyd Brothers Trucking and Farm Services in Fredericktown.
He is survived by three daughters, Bonita (Carl) LeddyBirkel of Pelzer, South Carolina, Barbara (Harold) Spurlock of Penrose, Colorado, Barrie (Brad) Fearn of Fredericktown, four grandchildren, Karla Birkel, Christy (Chad) Draper, Justin (Sarah) Fearn, Lindsay (Greg) Gladman, four great grandchildren, Chisum Draper, Avery Draper, Caroline Gladman and Jack Gladman, a sister-in-law, Katherine Weller Warner, several nieces and nephews and special friend, June Patterson of Mount Gilead, Ohio.
Following his first wife’s death, Chester married Faola Thompson Hart, who died in 1997. He is survived by her children, Nancy Whittington, Robert J. Hart and Rebecca Sue (Tomas) Fonseca.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Snyder Funeral Home of Fredericktown is honored to serve the family of Chester V. Leedy.
