Chester LeRoy Zimmerman, age 88, of 19560 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio died August 1, 2003 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born January 2, 1915 in New Pittsburgh, Ohio the son of Cleveland and Floy (Lehr) Zimmerman. He graduated from Chester High School in Wayne County and the Ohio State University with a masters degree in agriculture. Mr. Zimmerman had resided in Knox County for over 50 years retiring as the vocational agriculture teacher at Mount Vernon High School after 37 years in education. He was a member of the Ohio and National Education Associations, the State Retired Teachers Assoc. the Knox County Retired Teachers Assoc. the Ohio and National Vocational Agriculture Retired Teachers Associations and was a member of the Lutheran Church in New Pittsburgh.

Mr. Zimmerman was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed golf, woodworking, yard work and his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife H. Jean Zimmerman whom he married August 11, 1940; 4 daughters Linda Sigman of Mount Vernon, Sally Morrison of Florida, Nancy Diehl of Fredericktown and Peggy Hughes of Westerville; special friend Wendy Reed of Fredericktown; grandchildren Scott and David Sigman, Tina (Chuck) Schuler, John Lyon, Stacey (Mark) Weyhmeller, Michael (Tammy) Morrison, Brian (Fiancé Pam Kierce) Hall; great grandchildren Whitney and James Weyhmeller, Koltin Hall, Kora & Kylie Kierce, Erica Sigman, Monica Sigman, Teal & Avery Schuler and Kaitlyn Morrison; sisters Freda Swineford and Ruby VanZile; sister-in-law Maxine Zimmerman and brother Roy (Kay) Zimmerman. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Edith Crooks, a brother Russell Zimmerman and granddaughter Marcie Hall, son-in-laws Ray Sigman, Ken Morrison, Tom Diehl and Herb Hughes.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Pastor Dennis Turner officiating. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 PM and Tuesday from Noon to 1 PM at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
