Chase Nichols

April 11, 1985 ‒ July 22, 2017

Centerburg, Ohio

Chase Nichols, age 32, of Centerburg died unexpectedly, Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2017 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville from injuries sustained in a work accident.  If you knew, Chase, you know he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way…dying doing what he loved, working in the family business, in his uniform.

He was born on April 11, 1985 in Westerville, Ohio the son of James L. and Linda (Peck) Nichols.

Chase was a graduate of Centerburg High School and Knox County Career Center in the class of 2003.

He worked alongside his dad and brother as co-owners of Mid-Ohio Paving.  As a toddler, he was the only one in his class to know what asphalt was…it was in his blood.  He and Skyler have taken numerous asphalt certification courses and Chase knew permits and legal rights inside and out.  He lived and breathed asphalt.

When not working, Chase enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, and kayaking.

He was also big fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James.

Chase always enjoyed spending time with his family.  They will remember his beautiful smile, contagious laugh, generous heart, and his ability to turn strangers into friends.  Once you became friends with Chase you became his family.  And nobody outside his family was more important to Chase than all their employees and their families, especially the men he worked side by side with every day.

He will be missed by his mom Linda Nichols and her fiancé Phil Lawless; dad Jim Nichols and his wife Jeanette Marie; brother Skyler Nichols and his girlfriend Gabrielle Salamone; grandmother Dolly Peck; Uncle Dick and Aunt Kay Ann; cousins Mike, Adam, and Ellie; his girlfriend Amy Ludlow and her son Damon all of Centerburg

Chase was preceded in death by his Grandma Wilma; grandfather Luther Peck; and his Uncles Bill and John.

Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the services at 11 AM all taking place at the Centerburg Church of Christ, 3830 Columbus Road, Centerburg, Ohio 43011.  Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Flexible Pavements of Ohio, 6205 Emerald Parkway, Suite B, Dublin, Ohio 43016 ( where a scholarship in Chase’s name will be set up.

The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home of Sunbury is honored to serve Chase’s family.  Special memories and condolences can be expressed to them at

That will stay with me forever. So today, I am sending hugs your way, and will keep you and all of Chases family in my thoughts and prayers. From what I’ve heard, he was a great person. May all of your wonderful memories of him, help you through each and every day.

  • Linda and family

I am so sorry to hear about Chase. I remember the boys growing up together and hanging out. When you talk about being with and doing what he loves it reminds me of the farmer in fields working all the day long. One day he didn’t come in from the field. That is commitment and Chase showed it to the job, to the family business, to his friends and to himself.

    With much love,

  • Chase was an incredible guy! I started a friendship with him in study hall! He was always smiling and quick with a joke! I specifically remember during one of his freshman basketball games, Chase was on the bench while I was across in the stands. He continued to make hysterical faces that had a group of us laughing but then composing himself like he was doing nothing wrong to avoid the coaches eye! He was always having fun and a great friend to others.

I am sorry for your loss, he was a beautiful, kind person! Prayers and sympathy.

  • Ramp Creek Community would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Chase’s family and friends. Chase took charge of our extensive paving project in our Community, and it was evident that he loved what he did, and did it well. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
