May 09, 1991 ‒ October 02, 2018

Columbus, Ohio
Formerly of Sunbury, Ohio

Chase Gregory Cockrell, age 27, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Sunbury, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 2, 2018.

He was born May 9, 1991 in Westerville, Ohio, the son of Greg and Michele (Morgan) Cockrell.

Chase enjoyed playing peewee football from a young age, continuing through high school. He also joined the ski club, which led to a great passion for snowboarding and long boarding. Chase took piano lessons, guitar lessons, and drum lessons. Perfecting none but, enhancing his love for every genre of music from classical to bluegrass

From a young age, Chase dreamed of becoming a pilot. He was 20 hours away from obtaining his private pilot license when an accident put that dream on hold. Feeling the need to be in the air, he took up paragliding.

With all that said, he found time to help his Dad with the planting and harvesting of the family farms. He especially loved the John Deere tractor with the GPS.

Chase enlisted in the Ohio Air National Guard November 4, 2009. He successfully completed the Aerospace Maintenance Apprentice Certificate of Training, obtained his A&P Certification, and received several outstanding achievement medals. Chase currently holds the rank of Staff Sergeant at Rickenbacker Air Force Base. He loved his job and the connection he had with his military family.

Described by his family as fun loving and quite the entertainer, Chase enjoyed people and never met a stranger. His love for history and tales of long ago times gave him a special connection with people from all walks of life.

Along with his parents, Chase is survived by his sister Amanda Morgan (Jason) Opoka, grandparents Sarah Jane Cockrell and Jerry Allan Morgan, niece Evelyn Jane Opoka, numerous aunts and uncles, and a close-knit family of many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Carolyn Faye Morgan and Dean Junior Cockrell.

Visitation will take place Sunday, October 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Bridge (formerly First Baptist Church of Sunbury), 12259 N. Old 3C Highway, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.  Funeral services celebrating Chase’s life will be conducted at The Bridge on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Dan Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Trenton Cemetery.
