Charles S. Cockrell, age 81, of Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on September 9, 1938 in Marion, Ohio the son of Charles and Betty (Knight) Cockrell.  Charles proudly served in the United States Army 101st Airborne and retired as a service manager for Hi-Lo Manufacturing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Carol (Proper) Cockrell; children, David (Sabrina) Cockrell of Greenville, South Carolina, Rick (Kathy) Gardner of Sparta, Bill (Corinne) Cockrell of Canada, Gene (Gwen) Cockrell of Fredericktown, Claudia (Mike Motto) Burkett of Las Vegas, Yvonne Rinehart of Newcastle, Connie (Paul) Jones of Reynoldsburg, Deborah Hammons of Howard and Marcia (Doug) Mickley of Danville; twenty seven grandchildren; forty two great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; two brothers, David (Ruby) Cockrell of Fredericktown and Paul (Bobbi) Cockrell of Lakeland, Florida; three sisters, Mary (Keith) Carr of Butler, Norma Antrican of Butler and Margaret (Lain) Graves of McArthur, Ohio.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, John Pritchard; three brothers, Johnny Cockrell, Robert Cockrell and Danny Cockrell and a sister, Betty Davis.

Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday beginning at 11 am.  Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions in Charles’s name may be made to the Haiti Relief Fund or the Unwed Mother’s Home.
