Charles Richard “Dick” Sackman

BELLVILLE: Charles Richard “Dick” Sackman, 83, of Bellville, passed away Wednesday morning, November 19, 2008 in Knox Community Hospital following a long illness.
He was born December 17, 1924 in Mansfield to Charles and Hazel (Rhodes) Sackman and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1942.
A U.S. Army veteran, Dick served during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of Corporal.
On September 14, 1965 he married Thelma Layfield with whom he celebrated 43 years.
Dick worked in the shipping department at Westinghouse and retired in 1983 with 40 years of service.
He was a member of Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion, Bellville, and enjoyed puttering around the house, mowing the lawn, and taking long walks in the woods surrounding his property.
Dick is survived by his wife Thelma Sackman of Bellville, two sisters Mary Louise Myers of Loveland, Colorado, and Margie Jacot of Mansfield, six nieces and nephews and their spouses Linda Myers of New Hope, Pennsylvania, James and Charlotte Myers, Carolyn and John Siefers, and Richard Myers all of Loveland, Colorado, Carol Jacot of Mansfield, and David and Kim Jacot of Bellville, and many great nieces and great nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in Little Washington Congregational Church at 11 am. The Rev. David Root will officiate.
Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association may be made at the church or through the funeral home.
