Charles Robert Oberlin, 90, of Mansfield, died Saturday September 11, 2004.

Charles was born March 30, 1914, in Mansfield to Carl and Irene (Krebs) Oberlin, was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1932, attended the University of Michigan for two years, and had been a lifelong area resident.

A WWII veteran Charles served from 1942 to 1945 with the U. S. Army Air Corps in the European – African and Middle Eastern Theatre.

Charles was associated with Martin Steel Corp. for 45 years as Vice President and Treasurer, primarily in material management, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Mansfield Exchange Club, American Legion McVey Post #16 and Mansfield Lodge 35 F.&A.M.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Catherine (Hager) Oberlin; a son & daughter-in-law Charles R., Jr. and Kathleen Oberlin of Henderson, Nevada; a grandson Ric Oberlin of Chicago, Illinois; and a great granddaughter Shannon E. Herbert of Fairborn Ohio; a sister-in-law Eva Imler of Mansfield; a brother-in-law & sister-in-law Albert and Irma Hager of Mansfield; a brother-in-law James A. Hager of Columbia, South Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother James W. Oberlin.

Private funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. David Hartzfeld will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
