Charles Michael Allen

November 07, 1941 ‒ June 16, 2019

Sunbury, Ohio

Charles Michael Allen, age 77, of Sunbury, was called to be with the Lord Sunday, June 16, 2019, peacefully while at home.  Charles retired from Grant Medical Center as a Respiratory Therapist. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, Viet Nam.  A past member of the Moose Lodge and The Christian Motorcyclist’s Association.

Charles was born November 7, 1941 in Muskogee, OK to the late Charles E. and Dolly (Williamson) Allen.  He enjoyed many hobbies including cards, fishing, playing games and golf. He loved talking about golf, even though he could no longer play. He loved Christian and Country music and riding his motorcycle. Lynn will always have treasured memories of the trips and rides they took together.

Charles was a Buckeye fan. The best day of the week was College Football Saturday. The whole family would gather and hang out all day with Papa and watch football. Even though he was a Buckeye fan, he still would root for his hometown team the Oklahoma Sooners, until they played each other of course. He also loved his Dallas Cowboys.

A great storyteller, Charles had a story for every, and we mean every situation. The grand kids were lucky enough to hear them all. He loved being silly with his grand kids, who all adored him. He turned any small success into the biggest deal and would brag about it to anyone that would listen. He was proud of all his family and let anyone know as often as possible.

One of the things that will be missed the most is his laugh. It was loud, hearty, unrestrained and infectious. He could make a joke about anything. He was loved by all and will be missed dearly.

In addition to his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mitchell Whitekiller.  Charles is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Lynn Allen; children, Michelle Allen, Greg (Jennifer) Allen, Joseph (Doris) Burge, Joyce (Bruce) Schug; grandchildren, Jon (Tara), Lindsay (Dave), David (Katherine), Dani, Francis, Ceara, Avery Jo, Kayla, Payton, Emma, Erica, Mackenzie, Misti (Adam), Chad (Brittany); great-grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Andrew, Addison, Ella, Gavin, Logann, Scotlyn, Grant and Jacob; sister, Charlene Whitekiller; many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved.

Funeral Service 12 o’clock noon, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury, where the family will receive visitors from 10 AM until time of service.  Rev. Charles Whitekiller officiating.  Interment with military honors Trenton Cemetery.

DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve Charles’ family.  Special memories and condolences can be shared with them on this website.
