Mount Gilead, Ohio

Charles M. “Chuck” Eriksen, age 81, of Mount Gilead, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

On May 19, 1932, Chuck was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Martin and Angeline Doris (Lewandowska) Eriksen.

Shortly after graduating high school, he proudly served his country for three years in the United States Marines, receiving his honorable discharge in 1955.

Chuck worked in management for Galion Iron Works before his retirement after 23 years of employment. More recently he worked in maintenance for an apartment complex and took on many other side jobs.

In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, playing euchre, and watching IndyCar and NASCAR, with his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon. He attended races at Chicagoland, Indianapolis, and Bristol Motor Speedways. He was always tinkering with things and looking for something to fix.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren. He would visit them every Saturday when they would play board games, checkers, and have “Uno wars.”
Chuck will be remembered as a caring, independent man. He had a kind heart and always looked for ways to help others. He valued life and lived each day to the fullest.

Chuck will be missed by his step-son, Brent (Jolene) Healea of Lexington, and their children Cassady and Griffin. He is also survived by a sister, Dee Odt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marline S. Bates Eriksen.
