Charles H. “Chuck” Atherton, 71, of Galion, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at home after an extended illness.
Born March 20, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Frances Bostwick Atherton. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lois Ingram Atherton, whom he married June 30, 1961.
Chuck served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 and has been a member of Community Christian Church in Galion. He retired from McClain Industries, formerly Peabody-Galion, after 40 years of service. He loved the outdoors, his horse and hunting, and enjoyed wood working projects.
In addition to his wife, Lois, he is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Jeff Cullen of Galion; three grandchildren, Mike Cullen, Lindsey Steve Hart and Amy Cullen; three great-grandchildren, Braylen, Cullen and Christian Hart; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Lee Danner and Marty Day, both of Galion and Juanita Miller and Mary and Paul May, all of Akron and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Dave Clark of Galion.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Atherton and Earnie and Art Durieux and one sister, Bonnie Starmer.
Chuck’s family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Community Christian Church on State Route 19 at Biddle Road in Galion, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, with Dr. Daniel A. Turner, officiating. At Chuck’s request, no viewing will be held.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion.
