Charles “Gene” Woogerd, Jr., 82, of Galion went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, July 15, 2014, after a long lingering illness.

Born November 11, 1931 in Mansfield he was the son of Charles and Ruth (Rutter) Woogerd. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Wilda (Williams) Woogerd.

Gene attended Mansfield High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the former P.P.G. in Crestline and also worked part time as a security guard at the former McClain E-Z Pack in Galion. He loved to fish, do yard work, watch the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State University sports and enjoyed playing cards. Gene also attended the Wesley Chapel and enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he is survived by children, Debbie (Kevin ) Furr and Thomas Woogerd all of Galion; five grandchildren, Jarrod (Chen) Woogerd of Hilliard, Levi (Deanna) Furr of Lexington, Tiffany (Chris) Lohr of Mansfield, Morgan (Josh) Shifley of Galion and Shane Furr of Crestline; thirteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary (Alan) Monty of South Carolina, Linda Wilson of Mt. Gilead, Judy (Bob) Dretzka of Galion, Brenda (Jim) Dretzka of Galion; brother Edwin Woogerd of Lexington and a brother-in-law, Charles Fry of Galion

He was preceded in death by son, Terry Woogerd, great-granddaughter Courtney Furr, sister, Eileen Fry, two brothers, Harold and Robert Woogerd, brother-in-law, Junior Wilson and a sister-in-law, Beverly Woogerd.

Private burial at Fairview Cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in care of the Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel in Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to HomeCare Matters Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Genes family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of his family for all of their love and support, and also to Pastor Joe Stafford for all the prayers, to Dr. Leone for all his care and love, to HomeCare Matters Hospice for their care, to all the churches for their prayers and to all the people that brought food and to all that keep us in their prayers.     Wilda, Tom, Debbie and family – He was loved so much by all of you. You took such good care of him and he was happy to the end. You only have to look around to one another to see him. He is in all of you. God bless each and every one of you. Thank you for allowing me to spend time with him this last week. It means the world to me. He was a great brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is resting in peach. Love you all.
