Charles F. “Charlie” Wilson, age 95, of Mount Gilead, passed away Tuesday morning, April 18, 2017, at his residence.

His was born on June 8, 1921, in Ironton, OH, to the late George W. and Elizabeth (Wiley) Wilson.

In 1941, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army of which he was honorably discharged.

On April 26, 1943, Charlie married the love of his life Mary E. Murnahan in Greenup, KY. This year they would have shared 74 wonderful years of marriage together.

For most of Charlie’s career, he has painted a brighter future for others as a painting subcontractor. Before that he worked in the tunnels as a coal miner.

Away from work, Charlie was a member of the painters club and American Legion. He also liked to collect ginseng and sassafras roots of which he often made teas with. Charlie and his wife loved to travel all over the United States. They often shared in singing and playing music with various churches they visited. A man of faith, Charlie loved to read his bible and enjoyed deep conversations of scripture with his family and friends.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary; niece, Judy (Harold) Poore; nephew, Danny (Debbie) Russel; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Melt, Renny, Edgar, and Earnest Wilson; and sisters: Meddie Russel, Iddie Rice, Hanner Carmichael.

His family will greet friends from noon to 1 PM on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. A service honoring his life will follow at 1 PM with Pastor Jeff Deel officiating. Burial will follow at Bryn Zion Cemetery.
