Charles E. DeBoard
August 29, 1947 ‒ July 07, 2016
Charles E. DeBoard, age 68 of Centerburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday July 7, 2016 at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
He was born in Mount Liberty on August 29, 1947 to the late James and Wanda (Sawyer) DeBoard. He was a 1965 graduate of Centerburg High school and a US Army Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the Centerburg Freewill Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was the former Commander of the American Legion Charles Andrews Post 460 and at that time the youngest commander in 1974. He was the Assistant Fire Chief with the Centerburg Fire Dept. in the 1970’s.
Charles was a family man and loved the time spent with his family especially his twin granddaughters Sarah and Ashley. He loved going to church, being there when the doors opened, reading and studying his bible and would do his best meditation in the back swing at the house. Charles loved mowing his grass, tending his garden and plowing with his John Deere for other people. He would mow his grass so it was done in a square and was very particular as to how it was done and nobody else could do it the way he wanted it. In his spare time he loved playing with his canine companion, Lucy Lu, watching pro baseball especially the Dodgers and college football, even though he was a Michigan fan. Charles was most proud of his service to our country in the Army and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Joan (Farmer) DeBoard; daughter: Kathy (Gregory) Colangelo of Westerville; granddaughters: Sarah and Ashley; sister: Linda (Kenneth) Shields of Mount Vernon, Ardith (Don) Grey of Worthington.
He was preceded in death by his son: John DeBoard in March 1983.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. t the Centerburg Freewill Baptist Church, 377 N. Clayton Street, Centerburg where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery with Military Services.
