Chad Grix was the kind of son and brother anyone needed but no one deserved. His sharp wit, wisdom and charming voice disarmed anyone he met. On Saturday Chad, 27, passed away in his Mansfield home.

He was born March 31, 1988 in Dearborn, Michigan and was the son of Kenneth J. and Barbara L. (Owens) Grix who survive in Galion.

Chad was a graduate of Galion High School in 2006 where he was drummer in the high school marching band and graduated in 2011 from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. He was an avid reader, enjoyed collecting, listened to many kinds of music and played with many small bands. Chad was currently employed as a cook at Denny’s Restaurant in Mansfield and previously worked at the Red Lobster in Mansfield for 10 years.

In addition to his parents he is also survived by a brother, Timothy Grix of Columbus; aunts, Michelle Evans of Galion, Missy (Doug) Elgin of Shelby, Jenny Stinehour of Galion and Marie (John) McElroy of Northville, Michigan; uncles, Bill Grix of Hawaii and Thomas Grix of South Lyon, Michigan; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Clara Owens of Galion and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Bernadette Grix and an uncle, David Grix.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 11 with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating.

There will be a memorial luncheon held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the American Legion Scarbrough Post #243, 118 South Market Street Galion, Ohio 44833 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Locks of Love or to the Galion High School Music Department in care of the funeral home.

    • I did not know this young Man. But my Grandson, Zachary Dillard used to hang out at Denny’s In Mansfield before going into Navy.So Sorry For Your Loss.My Son and Grandaughter Live In Mansfield..May God Place His Peace In Your Family for Your Loss..

    • My prayers go out to chads family. I worked with chad at red lobster and he touched my heart then. My heart goes out to everyone that was close to him. He was one amazing person .

Although I never had Chad as a student, his antics were well known, and I remember him having a great, impish sense of humor whenever he dropped in at lunch in Mr. Weiskopf’s room. Tim, I am so very heartbroken for you. Please know that many people are lifting you up in thought and prayer.

  • Heartfelt condolences to Chad’s family. I only met him a few times, he was a dear friend of my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Carver, Allissa and McKenna Mustin. They all loved him, especially McKenna. He tutored her over the years, and helped her tremendously. He was such a bright young man.

  • We just found out about this today. We are so sorry and have heavy hearts to hear of Chad’s passing. He was such a neat kid and had a servant heart. He was very witty and fun loving, I remember the great times and all his help with youth group at church. Our sympathy and love go out to Ken, Barb and Tim and the rest of his family.
