Cecil Van De Bogart

Cecil Van De Bogart, age 93, of Marion, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Partners of Marion. Cecil was a quiet man with a big heart for his Lord Jesus, his family, and those around him, also a mind full of wisdom. He was born on a farm in Muskegon, Mi. to Max and Hazel Spellman Van De Bogart. The family moved to Delaware, Ohio when Cecil was in the 8th grade after they had lost their farm in Michigan. Cecil graduated from high school in Delaware and had several jobs then entered the Army Feb 4, 1943. After training extensively for desert warfare he was shipped to England then landed on Normandy Beach in the second wave. He was in the 3rd Armored Division and moved through France and throughout Germany till after their surrender. Cecil returned to the U. S. in troop ship and was discharged in September 1946 then being employed in several jobs around Delaware.
In April 1956 Cecil started a new chapter in his life by working for Whirlpool at the Marion, Ohio plant. December 24, 1961 he married Eleanor Peters and they moved to Marion and joined the Prospect Street United Methodist Church. He retired from Whirlpool April 1985 after 29 years of service. They purchased a winter home in Matlacha, Florida where he exercised his passion of fishing. They returned to year around residence in Marion in 2006 not missing the long drives.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry, and sisters Maxine and Doris. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, numerous nephews and nieces as well as his sister-in-law Margaret Fisher who lovingly cared for him for several years.
Friends may call from 10 to 11AM Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors where services will be held at 11AM with Pastor Nancy Goulet officiating. Burial will follow Jefferson Township Cemetery, in Blacklick, OH.
