Cecelia Susan (Cooper) Tannehill, 101, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware.

She was born December 29, 1906 near Carbondale, Kansas in the farm home of her parents John Joel and Anna (Hollis) Cooper. She grew up on the same farm caring for her younger sister while her parents worked the farm. She attended rural schools and then went to Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, where she met her future husband Francis V. Tannehill. They were married June 11, 1932 following Francis’ graduation from seminary. As a Methodist Pastor’s wife Cecelia served with her husband in a series of churches, moving from Kansas to Minnesota, to North and South Dakota and following her husband’s retirement in 1975 they settled in Bismarck. Cecelia spent the last three years of her life in a care center in Delaware, Ohio near her son Robert.

Cecelia loved music. She participated in a music club and attended many concerts and played piano and organ. She was a skilled homemaker and made most of her own clothes and knitted sweaters for her family. She enjoyed gardening and would can garden produce and make jams and jellies. She also enjoyed reading but her eyesight failed in her last years. She was a quiet person who nevertheless had strong convictions and loyalties.

She is survived by son: Robert (Alice) Tannehill of Delaware, OH, John (Inta) Tannehill of Lampeter, PA, Bruce (Gail) Tannehill of Whitefish, MT; grandchildren: Grace (J. Allen) Suddeth of Glen Ridge, NJ, Celia (Chris Ecker) Tannehill of Windsor, CO, Paul (Kathy) Tannehill of Radnor, OH, James (Cherie) Tannehill of Lancaster, PA; great grandchildren: Aubrey Hollaman of Ft. Collins, CO, F. Ian Hollaman of San Jose, CA, Margaret (Paul) Brown of Wellington, CO, Nicole Suddeth of Glen Ridge, NJ, Patrick Suddeth of Glen Ridge, NJ, Ryan Tannehill of Lancaster, PA.; great-great grandchildren: Benjamin and Jocelyn Brown of Wellington, CO; sister: Frances Roskam of Wichita, KS.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years: Francis Tannehill who died in 2000 and a brother: Chester Cooper.

The family will receive friends Saturday April 5, 2008 from 3-4 p.m. at the William Street United Methodist Church followed by a Memorial Service at 4 p.m. and she will be buried beside her husband in Bismarck, ND. Arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Delaware, Ohio.
