Cathy Jo Balaz, age 58, of Sunbury, died peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  Graduate of Big Walnut High School-Class of 1978.  Cathy was easy going, enjoyed sitting on her porch or hanging out in the garage with friends, and working with ceramics. She was most proud of and enjoyed spending time with family.  Born March 6, 1960 in ?? to the late Donald and JoAnn Canaday.  Also preceded in death by brother, Bruce Canaday and step-father, who raised her, Bill Schaas.  Survived by loving husband of 32 years, Dennis R. Balaz II; children, Franklin (Kelly) Bohanan of Delaware, Dennis (Kortney Schiavi) Balaz III of Croton, and Nicollette (Fiancé Brian Miller) Balaz of Cardington; brothers, Steve (Rosetta) Canaday of Delaware, Bob (Lisa) Dile of Danville; sisters, Donna Haddix of Sunbury, Tammy (Jim) Brown of Mechanicsburg and Lela Whipkey of Gahanna; grandchildren, Terrell, Carter and Baylee Bohanan, Henry and Evelyn Balaz. Friends may call 5 to 7 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury. Private family service and interment.   • Cathy was a very special person that will always be in my heart. She started as a neighbor and my mom’s friend but as I grew older she became a friend of mine. I would spend countless summer nights sitting on the front porch with her from the time I was a little kid all the way into my early 20’s. She will be very missed.
