October 17, 1947 ‒ April 20, 2016

Bellville, Ohio

BELLVILLE: Catherine Rose “Katie” Schroeder passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in her home surrounded by family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 68.

She was born October 17, 1947 to parents Earl & Theresa (Grassbaugh) Noser in Mansfield. After Katie was graduated from St. Peter’s High School, she attended college and was certified as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

On November 27, 1969, she married Dennis Schroeder and together they raised seven children. Katie was a librarian at Perry Cook Memorial Library, where she worked for over 22 years until retiring. She thoroughly enjoyed children and taught story hour.

In spare time, she took pleasure in fishing anywhere she could, planting flowers and vegetables around her home, and was an avid reader of all genres. Katie was a skilled artist; she would paint ceramics that she made herself and with Christmas as a favorite theme she called them “Katie’s Fantasy Santas”. She also enjoyed playing all sorts of card games and taking pictures of people. But above all, Katie just loved life and made friends everywhere she went.

She was a member of Resurrection Parish in Lexington.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Dennis Schroeder of Bellville; 7 children Deborah (John) Donner of Bellville, David (Jen) Schroeder of Deleware, Elizabeth Schroeder & Richard Smythe of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Benjamin (Sarah) Schroeder of Ft. Jennings, Susan (Bruce) Delnay of Silverthorn, CO, Sarah (Darren) May of Bellville, and Dr. Rebecca (Dr. Patrick) Nduaguba of Athens; 15 grandchildren James, Daniel, Anna and Abby Donner, Andrew, William, Lauren, and Alex Schroeder, Henry Smythe, Noah, Oliver, Lillian, and Rory Schroeder, Isaac Delnay, and Madison May; 9 siblings Joseph (Patty) Noser of Spruce Pine, NC, Sister Theresa Noser of Joliet, IL, Paul (Carolyn) Noser of Wooster, Mary Ann Wesney of St. Petersburg, FL, Frank (Carol) Noser of Raleigh, NC, Sister Margaret Noser of Brazil, Marie (Dr. William) Lynch of Neptune Beach, FL, Joan (Steve) Bonaventura of Croton, and John (Kristi) Noser of Hudson, WI; 2 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law Donald (Julia) Schroeder, Roger (JoAnn) Schroeder, Joyce (Gib) Kaufman, and Patricia (John) Siefker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The Schroeder family will receive friends 3-7 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 in Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Resurrection Parrish, 2600 Lexington Ave. celebrated by The Rev. Father Nelson Beaver. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery near Johnsville.

  • Katie was a good friend and I recall her being very supportive of her girls learning to play basketball in junior high at Northmor where I was their coach. She always had a smile on her face and somehow knew just what to say to the girls when we lost. Her girls were the cream of the crop and you could see a lost of Katie in each of them. We have lived in KY for the past ten years and unfortunately was unaware of her health issues and that makes us really sad. We will miss Katie!

  • We were so sad to hear of Katie’s death. We met Katie through her sister, Margaret. We came back to Ohio when Margaret was visiting from Brazil and were lucky to spend time at their beautiful home.

We will never forget the way Katie made us feel so welcome and treated us like one of the family. The last time we were there the house at dinner was filled with children, grandchildren and so much love and laughter!
