Catherine Marie “Katie” Chinni, 81, of Galion, died Monday, July 6, 2009 at Village Care Center in Galion.

Born April 25, 1928 in Galion, she was the daughter of the late Andy Chinni and Rose Longo Chinni.

Katie graduated from Galion High School and was a lifelong Galion resident. A very devout Catholic and long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. After her father’s death, Katie continued his family business, Chinni’s Restaurant, on South Street in Galion. She had many long-time customers, whom she nurtured and treated like family that will remember her for her good nature, friendly hospitality, open ear and delicious home-cooked meals and desserts. Katie also sang professionally with various area bands. She was proud to have sung at over 100 weddings.

Surviving are two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Andy Chinni, Jr. and his wife, Catherine Ann Chinni of Leonardtown, Md., Benjamin and Penny Chinni of Cleveland and Josephine Chinni of Crestline; eight nieces and nephews, Rose Burns, Joseph Diane Chinni, Sam Chinni, Jr., Laura Lee Alan Manfordonia, Ann Dea Joe Whippen, Christine William Warner, Jason Anne Chinni and Adrienne Chinni and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Sam Chinni; one niece, Andrea Feeney and three nephews, Thomas Michael, Kenneth John, and Christopher Paul Chinni.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Brennen officiating. Burial will be next to her parents and brother at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Galion. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday during calling hours with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating.
