Carolyn Mae Smith-Joyce, age 73 passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 11, 1939 in Delaware to the late Frank Banks Sr. and Louie (Mendenhall) Banks. A graduate of Willis High School in 1959, she was a lifelong resident of the Delaware community. Throughout her life she had worked with ABEX/Denison, Scioto Village and Speedway.

Always family oriented, she was a bowler in her younger years and had served as the President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Amvets Post #3 & #4. A member of Second Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school and served as an usher.

Friendly in nature, she was a true people person who was always looking out for others. Although strong willed and independent, her door and table were always open. She will be remembered for her friendly ways and love of family.

She is survived by children: Terrie (Marsha) Price, Barbara (Willard Jr.) Humphrey all of Delaware, Joice Merino of Columbus, Isaac W. Smith, and Terra Price both of Delaware, 12 Grandchildren, brothers: Forest “Bud” Banks Sr. of Delaware, Winston Banks of Springfield, Rodney Banks of Cardington, Richard Mason of Delaware, sisters Joyce Fashola of Delaware, Elsie Richardson of Wilberforce, and Hazel Moxley of Delaware, a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was also preceded in death by siblings: Bonnie Lou Banks , Walter and Frank Banks Jr., Louise Harris, Collins Banks, and Kathleen Banks.

Friends may call 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will follow 10:30 a.m. Friday, Deacon Franklin Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware.
