Caroline M. Schermerhorn, age 44, of Mount Vernon, OH passed away on Friday morning, September 11, 2009 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 12, 1965 in Fort Worth, Texas, a daughter of William and Marian (Vriessen) Stansberry of Brevard, NC.

Caroline was a Free Lance Writer and had many columns published in local newspapers and magazines. She was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, where she designed and coordinated the Vacation Bible School Program. Caroline was an Encountered member of the Worldwide Marriage Encounter and with her husband, Kelly were Encounter Leaders for several years with the local group.

In addition to her parents, Caroline is survived by her husband, Kelly V. Schermerhorn, whom she married on May 2, 1987; sons, Patrick J. and Jacob L. Schermerhorn both of the home; daughters, Teresa M. Schermerhorn of Ashland, Elizabeth A. Schermerhorn, Catherine M. Schermerhorn, and Veronica A. Schermerhorn all of the home; brothers, Jim (Sheril) Stansberry of Orlando, FL, Chris (Aziza) Stansberry of Pickens, SC, Bill (Joyce) Stansberry of Sanford, FL, and Mike (Alison) Stansberry of Saint Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon with a Vigil service at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
