Carol A. Workman, age 58, of Newcastle Road, Gambier, passed away on Monday September 11, 2006 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born on April 28, 1948 in Mount Vernon to the late Sterl and Leah (Rine) Laymon. Carol earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University. She was employed by the Mount Vernon City Schools for 30 years and spent 27 wonderful years as a kindergarten teacher at Pleasant Street Schools. Carol was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church where she played the piano for Sunday services. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Ohio Teachers Association, National Teachers Association, Knox County Retired Teachers Association and the Dogwood Blossoms.
She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years Howard Workman, a brother, Gerald (Nicole) Laymon of Gambier, many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Connie) Workman, Shelley (Leo) Armstrong, Mary Lou (Rayfield) Neighbarger and Judy (George) Stringfellow. Carol considered every one of her students as her children.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2 PM in Brandon Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Pellinen officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
