Carmela “Carrie” Pickering, age 92 of Mt. Vernon formerly of Galena, died early Friday morning, November 16, 2007 at the Autumn Health Community in Mt. Vernon.

She was born on December 1, 1914 in Willoughby to the late Guy and Assunta (Dionisi) Alviani. The homemaker had formerly resided on Jaycox Road in Galena for 50 years before moving to Mt. Vernon in 2005.

A gardener at heart, she enjoyed spending time outdoors. A wife and mother first and foremost, in the words of her family she was the “perfect mother.” Most proud of “her girls,” her life centered on family, they were always her number one priority.

Survived by daughters: Patricia E. (Bill) Rhodes of Howard, Donna L. Morrison (Rick Clark) of Columbus, Step-son: Larry A. Pickering of Buckeye Lake, 6 Grandchildren: Boyd (Michelle) Rhodes, Rick (Chandra) and, Steve (Davina) Morrison, Susan (Bryan) Dyke, Jeffery (April) and, Carrie A. Rhodes, 8 Great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years; Charles L. Pickering in 2002, brothers Harry and John Alviani, as well as sisters Pat Alviani and Lucille Hirth.

Friends may call Monday 4-8:00 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury. Her family will conduct graveside funeral services Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Fancher Cemetery.
