Carl W. Clements
February 04, 1927 ‒ June 15, 2018
Carl W. Clements, age 91, lifelong area farmer passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He was born on February 4, 1927 in Powell to the late Earl and Goldie (Wolford) Clements. One of fifteen in the New California High School Class of 1945, following graduation he entered the US Army. Carl proudly and honorably served his Country during WW II.
On February 27, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart Wanetta Thomas at the Ashley Methodist Church in Ashley, Ohio. They were happily married for 67 years. Throughout their lives and journey, they supported one another and worked side by side, through thick-n-thin, in every endeavor.
A Delaware County farmer for over 60 years, he raised sheep, hogs, and cattle in addition to crops. He was an avid gardener and always grew the first ripe tomato in Ostrander. He loved to supply his family, neighbors, and friends with his vegetables, musk, and watermelon’s from his garden. Perhaps Carl expressed it best; “I love playing in the dirt”.
He was a good helper, who worked hard in life and his vocation. Those hardworking ways certainly attributed to his longevity, following his heart attach thirty seven years ago, he either walked 4 miles per day or rode his bike daily for one hour. Carl was a member of the Ostrander Senior Citizens and American Legion Post 115.
A true outdoorsman at heart, he fished, gathered mushrooms, and hunted deer, rabbit, and geese. One with many hobbies and interests, he also enjoyed camping and traveling. Always with a story to tell, Carl knew all the best places to eat. He will be remembered for his loving and generous heart, helping hands and quick wit.
Carl was happiest farming or sharing the company of his wife Wanetta “Nete” who remains to cherish his memory, along with favorite cousins, Norm, Gene, Harvey and Paul Clements, Harold “Shorty” Wolford and his many nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother Robert, sister-in-law Virginia Clements, nephew Roger Clements, and parents-in-law Edward and Flora Thomas.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the OhioHealth Hospice team, who gave such loving and wonderful care.
