Brenda Kay Hood

May 13, 1939 ‒ August 22, 2018

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Brenda Kay Hood passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family. She was 79.

She was born May 13, 1939 to parents Curtis & Wanetta (Rinehart) Shumaker in Mansfield. Brenda graduated from Bellville High School with the class of 1957.

On December 22, 1977, she married L. Ray Hood and they spent 43 wonderful years together.

Brenda worked at Discount Mail and Print for over 20 years before retiring in 2010. In earlier years she also worked at PD’s Bar and Grill.

In spare time, she took pleasure in gardening, reading novels, especially mysteries, and watching birds. Brenda’s family will remember her for her selfless nature. She would always take care of others before herself.

Her cooking was second to none. She could cook anything and her apple pies were always the first thing gone at family get-togethers. But above all, Brenda cherished spending time with her family. She loved every moment with them, especially her great-grandchildren and watching them play soccer.

She is survived by her husband L. Ray Hood of Mansfield; children Tony (Claudette) Walker of Sault St. Marie, MI and Todd Walker of Lima; step-son Robert R. (Michelle) Hood of Mansfield; also her grandchildren Brianna (Brian), Denise, Tonya, Stasi and Amber; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings Diana Nidiffer of Warren, PA and Craig (Nora) Shumaker of Bellville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by children Lee Ann Ling and Terry Walker; grandchildren Brittany Ling and Adrienne Ling; sister Sharon Hazen.

Although no public service will be held in Brenda’s memory, her family hopes that you will hold her in your heart as you remember her in your own special way.
