Bobby Gene Smith

Bobby Gene Smith, 83, of Ashley passed away Thursday evening, July 26, 2018 at Marion General Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1934 in Delbarton, West Virginia to the late Andy and Mattie (Prudue) Smith. Bobby loved the Lord and supported the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews in their efforts to return displaced Jews to Israel following the holocaust. Bobby was an excellent husband and will be remembered as a fair and honest man who was both loving and strict with his children. When he wasn’t enjoying westerns or religious programming Mr. Smith, a tinkerer at heart, could often be found in his garage repairing cars or small engines and building things.
Bobby worked for Union Tank Car retiring in 1993 but was also a police officer, a coal miner, and a builder.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years Ella Mae Smith of Ashley his children, Bobby Gene (Rochelle) Smith Jr. of Salineville, Bruce Smith of Wellsville, Rocky Smith of East Liverpool, Wayne Smith of Lisbon, Robert (Tammy) Smith of Kilbourne, Helen (Keith) Maple of East Liverpool, Diane of East Liverpool, Brenda (George) Warren of East Liverpool, Della Mae (Kenny) Hutchinson of Ashley and; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Lilly and Rita Compton of Delaware; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a sister, Helen, and a brother Larry.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services observed at this time.
