Billy R. “Eddie” DeLong, age 70 of Centerburg died early Friday, December 08, 2006 at Woodside Village Care Center in Mt. Gilead.

He was born on March 27, 1936 in Bannor, Kentucky to the late John and Hester Mae (Meade) DeLong. Eddie moved to Centerburg in 1966 from Kentucky. He had worked as an assembler for Fruehauf Trucking in Westerville, building low bed trailers and formerly as a kiln operator for Galena Brick Company.

A down home country boy, he was a proud member and deacon of the Mt. Tabor Freewill Baptist Church. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing at the Delaware Dam, and when able hunting, deer, rabbit, and pheasant. He also enjoyed reading and studying his bible. Loved by all, he never knew a stranger, reflected by his many friends.

Survived by his devoted wife of 48 years: Polly (Gilliam), whom he married August 19, 1958 in Bannor, Kentucky, Sons: Dave DeLong of Centerburg, Ernest Ray (Anna Marie) DeLong of Germany, Johnny DeLong of Marengo, Teddie DeLong of Mt. Vernon, Daughter: Louella Mae (Scott) Pettiett of Cleveland, 7 Grandchildren: David, Shawn, Joey, Chuckie, Christina, Jerrod, Nickie Brothers: Fred (Kathy) DeLong of Delaware, Jimmy (Lucie) DeLong of Sunbury, Ernest DeLong of Hinesville, GA.

Preceded in death by a Sister and 5 Brothers.

Friends may call Tuesday 3-7 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Wednesday 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Robert Matney, James Wyatt, and Rick Lane officiating, interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta.
