August 20, 1928 ‒ April 25, 2019

Delaware, Ohio

Billie Spalsbury, 90, passed away peacefully on April 25, under the loving care of Arbors in Delaware, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Del Spalsbury.

She will be greatly missed by her three children Eric, Jill and Todd, and her grandchildren Jessica, Nick, Alanna, Paige and Hunter.

Loved dearly, Billie was a talented musician.  She taught music at Kentucky Wesleyan College and later to generations of students in Houston TX, Blackwell OK and eventually in London, where she resided for 47 years.  Billie played the organ at Trinity Episcopal Church faithfully for years, and accompanied countless local productions.  She was a member of Women in Music Columbus and several local clubs.

Billie was also a great fan of football, basketball (KU Jayhawks), and baseball, and could play a mean game of tennis.

Her bright spirit and kindness were a gift to all, and her family and friends are blessed with the fondest of memories.

A memorial service is planned at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m.  All her friends are welcome to come and celebrate her life with her family.

  • Billie was a wonderful cousin. We had some great times when we visited our grandparents in Altamont. She could always think of fun things to do, and we admired her talent at the piano and in acrobatics. What a great friend and relative! — Joan (George) Paine, Phoenix, AZ.

  • I knew Billie mostly through my wife, Kathy, who was a first cousin to her. She and Del visited our new home in the mid-1990s and we enjoyed it so much. George and Joan Paine came, too. The highlight of the visit was when we talked Billie into sitting at our piano and playing a couple of 1950s Broadway tunes, while Joan and I sang. She was a vivacious and lovely woman — Rudy Taylor, Caney, Kan.

  • For many years Billie was an angel to my mother in London. On my visits there, I too enjoyed Billie’s company and sharing stories of children and grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally. Both she and Del were great folks and contributed much to London, Ohio.

  • Being somewhat younger, I didn’t get to know my cousin Billie as well as my sister, Joan, knew her, but what I remember most is Billie’s wonderful voice and laugh. Her piano playing abilities were top notch as was her personality. Prayers to Billie’s family.
