Mount Gilead, Ohio

Betty Walker, age 85, of Mount Gilead, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, February 26, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 17, 1931, at the family farm near Galloway, OH, to the late Charles J. and Ethel F. (Dougherty) Parker. Betty was the youngest of 10 siblings and graduated from Hilliard High School in the class of 1949. It was in high school where she caught the sparkle in the eye of her high school sweetheart, Gerald.

On December 28, 1950, Betty married the love of her life, Gerald R. Walker. Together they have shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.

In 1960, Gerald and Betty moved just north of Mount Gilead when they purchased the family farm. As a farmer’s wife, Betty worked alongside Gerald in the fields and with the dairy. She also loved to tend to her garden and cook meals. She loved raising her strawberries and she never wanted anyone to leave her table hungry. Most important of all to Betty, was the love she had for her family. As her family began to grow, so did her love for each and every one of them.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald; children: Jack (Janet) Walker, Ruth (Bill) Creswell, Charles (Elaine) Walker, Mary (Steve) Louis, and Jean (Joe) Beck; grandchildren: Kim (Scott) Harvey, Holly (BJ) Trainer, John (Samantha) Walker, Aaron (Anna) Creswell, Andy (Sarah) Creswell, Jerrod (Corinna) Walker, Angela (Matt) White, Alison (Andy) Oswald, Kasey (Ben) Ziska, Shelby (Nic) Hunter, Joe (Stephanie) Beck, and Josh (fiancé Chelsie Pope) Beck; great grandchildren: Miranda, Kendra and Garrett Harvey, Chelsea, Noah, Ethan, and Maya Trainer, Ava Walker, Ella, Dane, and Janey Creswell, Haylee and Bentley Walker, Bella and Sebastian White, Griffin and Adele Oswald, Lukas and Quinn Ziska, Brooksten, Brody, and Braylen Beck; sisters: Norma Jane Ferrell and Evelyn (Vern) Erwin; and sister-in-laws: Joanne White, Iva Sheets, and Lois (Loren) Combs.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; numerous brothers and sisters; and a great grandson: Sawyer Walker.

Her family will greet friends from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. (67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead). Services celebrating her life will be held there at 1 PM, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, with Pastor Andy Jesson officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia cemetery.
