Betty S. Chambers, age 76 of Delaware passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at Riverside Hospital from injuries sustained in an accidental fall at home.

She was born on December 15, 1933 in Martinsville, Indiana to the late Paul H. and Lucille (Miller) Thomas. A graduate of Martinsville High School, she was a lifelong homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. A lifelong Hoosier, she remained proud of her Indiana roots after moving to Delaware in 1984.

A woman of deep faith, she lived a life in testimony to God. She was a devote member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as former President of the Delaware Chapter of the Women’s Relief Society, and was a former Sunday School and Primary leader.

In her younger years, she enjoyed tap dancing and loved Broadway shows and musicals. She was a mother to many more than her own, caring for numerous different children in Indiana and Ohio.

Compassionate and good humored, she was a charitable leader among women. Betty was well loved. Intelligent, she appreciated history and politics. She enjoyed a creative and competitive spirit. She will be remembered as a good Christian woman who was devoted to her family and serving the needs of others.

She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 50 years: Lemuel “Earl” Chambers, beloved mother of Emily Lucille (Mel) Hall-Conley of Plain City, Bryan Booth (Martha) Chambers of Globe, AZ, Fletcher Keith (Marie) Chambers of Powell, 13 Grandchildren: Talea, Hank, Katie, Millie, Thomas, Bradford, Donovan, Connor, Spencer, Ellery, Owen, Patrick, and Lillian.

In addition to her parents who died at a young age, she was also preceded in death by Sister Shirley Ann Swaniger.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 William St. (SR 36), Delaware. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 15 Rock Creek Dr., Delaware, OH 43015 with Bishop Jary Carter officiating, burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Her family prefers memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, 39 W. Winter St., Delaware, OH 43015.
