Betty Ward, age 87 of Delaware died Sunday afternoon at Grady Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Ostrander on March 23, 1927 to the late Clifton L. and Marie D. (Ramsey) Hinton. After raising her family she worked as the bar manager for V.F.W. Post No 3297 until 1985. Betty was a member of the Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and the former Park Ave. Senior Citizens.

Having affection for birdhouses and birds, she also enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, and in her younger years flower gardening.  Always jovial and humorous she treasured time spent at church and with her family.

Survivors include her beloved children Vicky Doutt, James M. Curtis, Judy A. Curtis, and Dale M. Curtis all of Delaware, 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her first husband John Curtis in 1975, her second husband Jerry Ward in 2003, grandson Shawn Streeter, brother John Hinton, and Sister Helen Warner.

Friends may call 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware where services will follow 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dorsel Messick officiating.

Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery next to her first husband.
