MANSFIELD: Betty Lou Van Riper, 85, of Mansfield passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Mifflin Care Center.
Betty was born October 16, 1926 in Shelby and was graduated from Mansfield Senior high school in 1944. She married Carroll Van Riper who preceded her in death in 2002.
Blessed with a giving heart, Betty loved helping others. She volunteered at the Salvation Army and serving lunches. She was also in charge of the Senior Program at the Salvation Army and a meticulous recording secretary of Home League Ladies. Betty cherished her family and especially caring for her grandson and traveling to Florida.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law John and Debbie Van Riper of Mansfield; grandson Ryan Van Riper; sisters Norma Wasemann and Ruth Warner both of Mansfield, sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Ken Frisbee of Crestline, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Karen Workman, Bill and Sue Workman and sisters and brothers-in-law Connie and Terry Kemp and Sharon and Bill McQuillen, sister-in-law Geri Workman all of Mansfield; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with her parents and husband Carroll, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Workman, an infant sibling Patricia Workman, and brother-in-law Lane Warner.
The Van Riper family will receive friends Monday, October 31, 2011 from 6-8 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 10:30am. The Major Jacqueline Todhunter will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army Dewald Center may be made through the funeral home.
