Betty Jeanne Bailey
October 27, 1922 ‒ January 13, 2005
MANSFIELD: Betty Jeanne Bailey, 82, of Cobblefield Drive, Mansfield, died Thursday morning January 13, 2005 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.
She was born October 27, 1922 in Akron to Walter A. and Helen May (Brobst) Price, and was graduated from Akron North High School in 1940.
Mrs. Bailey attended Denison University, and was graduated from Otterbein College in Westerville. She taught elementary classes in Centerburg for eleven years.
From Centerburg, she moved to Strongsville, and at retirement in 1986 to Ormond Beach, Florida. In 2000 she moved from Florida to Rutherfordton, North Carolina, before coming to Mansfield a year ago.
She attended Marion Avenue Grace Brethren Church, and maintained her membership in First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton.
Mrs. Bailey was a woman defined by her passions, not her vocation. She was gifted in the dying art of volunteerism, regardless of the location of her residence. She had invested 2000 hours as a hospital volunteer in Florida, North Carolina, and even a short stint at MedCentral Mansfield. Her ministry of helps extended as a church volunteer, as well as serving as a tutor in after-school programs.
Remembered for her “green thumb,” Betty was active in garden clubs throughout her life, often serving in the role of club officer.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law Kristin Baker of Columbus; Valerie and Chris Harter of Mansfield; and Victoria Bailey and her husband James Adusky of Denver, Colorado; a son and daughter-in-law Mark and Rosemary Bailey of Columbus; five grandchildren; a sister-in-law Carolyn Price of Akron.
Her husband Stephen Paul Bailey preceded her in death on March 18, 2000. Her brother Forrest A. Price is also deceased.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 15, 2005 from 5-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where a service celebrating the life of Betty Jeanne Bailey will be held Sunday at 2:30 pm. Friends may also call Sunday, from 1:30 pm until time for the service. Pastors J. Hudson Thayer and Les Vnasdale will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park, Akron.
The family encourages memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, and may be made at the funeral home.
