Betty Jane Heaton, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Country Club Retirement Center in Mount Vernon. Betty was born in Croton, Ohio, to the late James and Estella (Orndorff) Hunter.

Betty was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon for many years, Colonial City Women of the Moose Chapter 100 for 47 years, Amvets Post 95 Auxiliary Life Member. She was a graduate of the College of Regents, and a member of the Academy of Friendship 1st degree.  An avid sports fan, she loved the Indians, Browns, Cavaliers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  Betty loved to dance and was an avid reader.  She enjoyed going to her grandson’s ballgames and caring and being around her granddaughter.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Gardner of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Debbie (Mike) Williams of Bellville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Chris Gardner of Longmont, Colorado, Alicia Williams of Bellville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Valorie Williams; brothers, Harold, Harry, Ray and Dale Keith Hunter.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home; 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Mr. Roger Marra, with burial to follow in Mound View Cemetery.

  • Debbie and families, so very sorry to hear your mother passed away. Unable to attend calling hours or the service, she was a friend of mind, when I worked for the Board of Elections I got to see her at her employment for the county. Wanted to let you know Shelly has breast cancer and having chemo. Many blessings and prayers.
