Betty J. Schnelker, 87, of 3659 State Route 598, Crestline died Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Galion Community Hospital after a short illness.

Born May 21, 1918 in Galion, she was the daughter of the late Hayes Crumb and Emma McCartney Crumb. She was preceded in death on October 25, 1996 by her husband, Myron L. Schnelker whom she married on October 3, 1942.

She was a lifelong resident of Galion until moving in 2000 to live with her daughter at Wildlife Haven. A 1936 graduate of Galion High School, she was first employed in the office of the former Ohio Overcoat Co. During World War II, while her husband was in the service, she worked as a secretary at the former Central Ohio Steel. She later worked in the office at North Electric, retiring from Telecom Division of ITT in 1978.

She was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion and a member of the Galion Historical Society, Crawford County Humane Society and AARP.

She loved reading and music and was a talented artist. She enjoyed the years she spent at Wildlife Haven, the country scenery there and the many animals cared for by her daughter and son-in-law.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jane Schnelker and Chuck Cotsmire of rural Crestline, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sally Schnelker of Morrow County and a grandson, Jack Hartwick; a granddaughter and spouse, Elizabeth and Joshua Baer and a great granddaughter, Shelby Baer all of Galion.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Rosemary Kraner and Jerry, Phyllis and Eleanor Crumb.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Very Reverend Michael Schelling, Pastor/Dean officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. during calling hours on Thursday.
