Betty J. Harper

January 01, 1922 ‒ September 16, 2007

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Betty Jane Harper, age 85, of Mount Gilead, died on Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2007, at her residence surrounded by her family following a brief illness.

She was born in West Jefferson, Ohio, on January 26, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Leumina Paine Dysart.

For thirty years, Betty lived in Miami, Florida, where she worked as a parts technician for Emerson Electric. In 1998, Betty moved to Mount Gilead to be near her daughter, Sandy, and worked at Wendy’s in Sunbury as a greeter.

An avid Bingo player, Betty loved to play Bingo and she knew when and where to be at all of the local halls.

When she wasn’t playing Bingo, Betty enjoyed word search puzzles and spending time with her two cats: Sammy Jo and Suzie.

A very independent woman, Betty had her own unique way of showing her family and friends she cared.

She will be missed by her daughter: Sandy (Earl) Stevens of Mount Gilead; three sons: John (Joyce) Carey of Hollywood, Florida, Larry Carey of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jerry Carey of Hilliard; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Beverly Barker of Grove City, and Patty Denny of Washington Courthouse; and by all of her Bingo buddies.

Including her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her former husbands: Paul Carey and Roy Harper; and two sisters: Marquiete Cridland, and Florence Carey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg, with Rev. Star Sanchez officiating, where burial will follow.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
